Acta Physiologica Sinica (APS) is sponsored by the Chinese Association for Physiological Sciences and Shanghai Institutes of Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and is published bimonthly by the Science Press, China. APS publishes original research articles in the field of physiology as well as research contributions from other biomedical disciplines and proceedings of conferences and symposia of physiological sciences. Besides ¡°Original Research Articles¡±, the journal also provides columns as ¡°Brief Review¡±, ¡°Rapid Communication¡±, ¡°Experimental Technique¡±, and ¡°Letter to the Editor¡±. Articles are published in either Chinese or English according to authors¡¯ submission.
When the journal started publication in 1927, it was named The Chinese Journal of Physiology, and was published only in English. In 1953, the name of the journal was changed into Acta Physiologica Sinica, and all articles were published in Chinese with English titles, abstracts, address of author(s), and later with English keywords, illustrations¡¯ heading and full legend, and table heading. All the published articles have been strictly peer-reviewed. This tradition of APS has won a nation-wide recognition and made it one of the core academic magazines in China.
APS is now covered by many important index systems such as Biological Abstracts, Chemical Abstracts, Index Medicus, Excerpta Medica, BIOSIS Databases, MEDLINE and §²§Ö§æ§Ö§â§Ñ§ä§Ú§Ó§ß§í§Û §Ø§å§â§ß§Ñ§Ý (Russia), etc. In 1999 and 2005, the APS won respectively ¡°the First, Second and Third National Magazine Prize of China¡± and ¡°the Special Prize of Excellent Academic Magazines of the Chinese Academy of Sciences¡±.
The new Editorial Board (2006-2009) was established recently, and is composed of 53 domestic and foreign scientists. The current Editor-in-Chief is Dr. Yao Tai, Professor of Physiology at the Fudan University Shanghai Medical College. The Editorial Board is composed of 53 members from the various parts of China. The new International Advisory Board consists of 17 leading scientists from 10 countries.
