长期从事痛觉编码与调制机制研究、阿片成瘾及其防治机制研究及深部脑刺激治疗运动系统疾病的研究。已发表研究论文七十余篇。主要成绩包括:

痛觉编码研究:首次从神经元群活动的水平证实,内侧和外侧痛觉系统在编码痛觉刺激的过程中存在明确的分工;首次证实痛觉编码系在丘脑-皮层神经网络的参与下完成,在痛觉编码过程中,存在大量的由皮层向丘脑的下行信息流动过程。

痛觉调制研究:首次揭示了电针镇痛在神经网络水平的机制,即主要削弱外侧痛觉系统对痛感觉成分的传递并降低丘脑与皮层神经元活动之间的相关性;首次提出丘脑背内侧核可能在电针镇痛中发挥重要作用;首次将中枢功能活动强度与行为学指标进行相互关联的考察,并据此确定了电针所激活中枢脑区中的镇痛相关部位.

外周电刺激频率和部位特异性效应研究:首次在单个神经元水平和中枢神经元网络水平研究外周电刺激的频率效应,证实不同频率电刺激可以选择性地兴奋中枢不同的神经元,并导致核团之间不同的信息流动改变;首次利用功能磁共振成像技术证实不同频率、不同部位外周电刺激可激活中枢不同网络。

阿片成瘾及其防治机制研究:率先创建吗啡条件性位置偏爱的消退后重建模型作为阿片心瘾戒断后复发模型;首次提出环境应激和药物点燃导致的复吸具有不同的中枢机制;首次证实外周电刺激可抑制吗啡及可卡因诱导的条件性位置偏爱,且该效应具有频率特异性。
